Exhibition catalogs, Guild of Book Workers
Catalog for the Guild of Book Workers’ 100th Anniversary Exhibition from September 20-November 25, 2006 (Grolier Club). The Guild was begun in 1906 by a group of book artisans to “establish and maintain a feeling of kinship and mutual interest”. The Guild’s primary focus is on bookbinding, though it promotes related areas within book arts such as hand papermaking, printing, illumination and calligraphy, and the conservation / restoration of older book materials. Though the Guild’s emphasis was initially on the traditional techniques of fine binding, more recently, a strong interest in artist’s books has developed. This catalog brings together the retrospective and contemporary halves of the Guild’s 100th Anniversary exhibition. The two halves were only exhibited together at the Grolier Club in New York City, with just the exhibition of contemporary work traveling throughout the country throughout 2007. Detailed exhibitor biographies are included.
