This is the catalog for “SO CALled Books”, an exhibition of artist’s books showcasing the work of artists in Southern California, from Bakersfield to San Diego. The exhibition took place at the San Francisco Center for the Book, and ran from September 17-November 19, 1999. The exhibit presents a sampling of the diversity and innovation of the Golden State artists; the artists in the exhibition are among those who are exploring new forms that ‘reinvent’ the book. Artists represented include Mariana Barkus, Inge Bruggeman, Terry Braunstein, Linda Ekstrom, Mary Heebner, and Elena Mary Siff, among others.
