Prue Dobinson, English textile artist and paper maker, begins with an exploration of the history and distribution of woad, used as the primary European source of indigo blue dye for more than 2,000 years. Dobinson then continues to discuss the process of extracting the dye, as well as the dying process itself (covering key principles of indigo vat use). Also included are a bibliography, notes from the author, an exploration of the use of indigo in Japan, and indigo color and dyed piña (pineapple) paper samples.
