In this title, Shimura explores artwork made from kon’nyaku paste ink (kon’nyaku is a tuber plant originating in Indochina). The use of this ink results in a uniquely translucent paint quality. As Shimura notes, “While revealing the surface of the paper, it can also mask initial layers of ink, making it a versatile medium that can either be translucent, semi-translucent, or opaque.” The title contains a brief FAQ about the kon’nyaku plant and the process of creating/using paste ink from the plant. Shimura then explores the relatively new process of art created by the mixing of kon’nyaku paste and natural dyes which are then printed as a mono print, lino (rubber) cut, woodblock, or silkscreen. Also included are instructions on how to make a paper had with kon’nyaku paste, as well as kon’nyaku color samples on differing types of paper,
