This is the catalog for an exhibition at the Grolier Club covering the bookmaker Gotthard de Beauclair. From introduction: “There is a remarkable duality in de Beauclair’s work. Using the most previous materials and the finest craft techniques, he produced limited edition books that rival the finest exemplars of the art of bookmaking… His work shows that the most important factor in book manufacture is the intelligent and tasteful handling of typography, materials, and processes.”
This title provides a brief introduction to de Beauclair’s life and works, and then delves into samples of his work for various publishers. The second half of the book provides full-color illustrations of some of his pieces.
