Catalog for the Pia Pizzo “Feeling Words” exhibition which took place from December 1, 1986-January 9, 1987 at the Dickson Art Center in Los Angeles. From introduction by Peter Selz, “Since the 1960s artists have made books which are not books at all but works of art. Pia Pizzo’s “feeling words” derive from her earlier geometrical paintings and three-dimensional art. Pizzo has made books with “white pages” since 1972. At first they were sculptural pieces, then increasingly they turned into tactile works – larger, more sensual in their preparation. As the viewer looks, touches, or moves through the pages, the mind’s eye empties, completely losing intellectual thought, while gaining a lasting intimacy with the tactile senses. Her latest books – the most lavishly conceived – are about nothing; yet speak of many things.” Loose-leaf introductory pamphlet is included, along with a brief biography of the artist. Artist’s CV is included in the catalog.
