From insert: “The dissertation A pagina violada (“the violated page”) was developed to obtain the master’s degree on Fine Arts, according to Brazilian procedures. It is the outcome of a research on conceptual problems between the concepts of artist’s book and book objects, started from a comparison of theoretical lines with the production itself. The development of the matter is divided into four parts, crossing who made the books with who wrote about book art. The first part (after the foreword and the introduction) has its focus on the survey of the existent bibliography and the presentation of researchers and their ideas…The second part presents the artist’s book lato sensu under the viewpoint of the time and temporality (and corruption or perversion of memory). The third part rests on the materiality (spaciality and exacerbation of corpus). In that chapter, I concluded the reasons for the title “The violated page”, promoting a counterpoint to the title “The altered page”, from the 1988 exhibition at The Center for Book Arts of New York. The fourth part is the conclusion. It is followed by the bibliography and appendices. Please read the abstract at page 7, kindly translated from Portugese into English by Alice Monsell, an American-born artist who lives and works in Brazil” – Paulo Silveira. This dissertation was printed in twenty numbered and signed copies that were offered as a present to collaborators and contributors. This is number 5 of 20. Text is in Portugese, with only a couple of pages on English.
