This preservation kit contains seven different enclosure samples intended to demonstrate the large variety of needs that are often encountered in library and personal collections. Enclosures comprised in the kit include the storage wrapper, the self-closing wrapper, a two-part folder, a three-part folder, slipcase I, slipcase II, and slipcase III. The authors took care to ensure that each enclosure is made of pH neutral materials, that the time and material costs required for creating the enclosures is minimal, and that the equipment and tools needed are readily available, affordable, safe and simple to operate. The models are included unassembled and are intended to serve as practice tools, making it easier to visualize the finished products as well as the working functionality of components as each enclosure is assembled. The kit is enhanced by a small how-to manual by Hedi Kyle and Virginia Wisniewski that demonstrates the equipment and tools, materials, and methods required to assemble each of the sample enclosures. Additional topics include a discussion on grain direction in paper products, adhesives, and working tips. The assembly portion of the textbook is accompanied with step-by-step illustrations that take the reader through the process.
