"In 1978 Miss Jill Kerr, an assistant to Mrs. B.M. Whatmore, Organiser of the Radcliffe Trust Scheme for the Crafts and a Council member of the Leather Conservation Centre, made a survey on the state of leather conservation. She visited eleven organisations concerned with the storage and preservation of historic materials, and her Report gave in detail the needs for leather conservation in Taxidermy, Ethnography, Musical Instruments, Military and Maritime History, Furniture, Textiles and Bookbinding...Since Miss Kerr's Report was of necessity brief, the Council of the Leather Conservation Centre decided to commission a more detailed and lengthy survey to obtain sufficient information to enable decisions to be made concerning the structure, scope, and financing of the Centre...The Jamieson Report, which was prepared for limited private circulation, was completed in January, 1981, and is a very coprehensive work of some 240 pages...The object of this monograph is to present the findings of this report in a concise form, placing particular emphasis on leather conservation and making observations on current methods." -- Introduction Contents: Foreword -- Introduction -- The Need for a Specialist Centre -- Methods Currently Employed -- Wet Archaeological Material -- Dry Leather Objects -- Future Research into Leather Conservation -- Training Courses -- Conclusions -- Appendix 1: Establishments Visited -- Appendix 2: Establishments Contacted -- Appendix 3: List of Proprietary Products
