"The American Printing History Association (APHA) is a membership organization that encourages the study of the history of printing and related arts and crafts, including calligraphy, typefounding, typography, papermaking, bookbinding, illustration, and publishing." - APHA website: printinghistory.org APHA was founded in 1974 and published its' newsletter as bimonthly announcements to all members. Its founding editor was Catherine Tyler Brody. After 1985 it was then edited by Stephen O. Saxe and published six times a year briefly, and then eventually four times a year and edited by Lisa Doddington, Betsy Peare, and then Jane Rodgers Siegel. Other publications of APHA include the scholarly journal: Printing History. Until Number 171 (summer 2009) the newsletter was a printed publication, distributed by mail to all members of APHA. After this time it became available as a PDF to view online. The Newsletter announces events, workshops, notes from the annual meeting, new book publications, conferences, and lists members' information. With the editing of Stephen O. Saxe the newsletter started printing articles on related topics as well. When Stephen O. Saxe retired as editor, he cites the Board of APHA as wanting the mission of the newsletter to stay dedicated to announcements and decrease its focus on historical articles (covered in the APHA scholarly journal).
