Catalog for the Lisa Mackie: Continuous Incident installation that ran from February 22-March 25, 2008 at the June Kelly Gallery in New York City.
From introduction: “As we spend time with Continuous Incident, a host of associations begin to announce themselves, associations that allow us to come to terms – at least temporarily—with Mackie’s elusive improvisations. She gives us some help by invoking the four elements, Earth, Air, Fire, and Water, in her titles. These traditional categories were once believed to account not only for the literal, material make-up of the natural world, but also to explain, metaphorically, the differences between male and female, and the variations in appearance, capabilities, characteristics, and personalities of most living things. Mackie’s references to these fundamental oppositions give us a way to think about her choice of colors and images.”
