The Newsletter of the History of the Book in Canada Project was published annually from March 2001 and ceased in December 2005. The Newsletter provides updates on the progress of the Project as well as background information on the researchers involved and their course of study. "Developed by a team of historians, literary scholars, librarians, and information specialists, a History of the Book in Canada/Histoire du livre et de l'imprimé au Canada defined Canada’s place within an international network of book history studies. HBiC/HLIC was funded in 2000 under the Major Collaborative Research Initiatives program of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. Seven editors coordinated research from six universities across Canada and collaborated with new and established scholars. The six-year project published six volumes (three in English, three in French) in conjunction with the University of Toronto Press and Les Presses de l’Université de Montréal. Five databases supporting scholarship in book history were also be compiled and were transferred to Library and Archives Canada in 2009." -HBiC "The History of the Book in Canada project was a substantial research endeavour which was undertaken between May 2000 and March 2007 thanks to a $2.3 million Major Collaborative Research Initiative Grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. With the publication of a history of print culture in Canada (three volumes in English and three volumes in French between 2004 and 2007) and the creation of a comprehensive website of electronic resources, the project has made and will continue to make a major contribution to Canadian history. An editorial team of seven Canadian scholars, assisted by a project manager, led the initiative. Research sites included Dalhousie University, Quebec City, Université de Sherbrooke, McGill University, University of Toronto, University of Regina, and Simon Fraser University where students and post-doctoral fellows assisted with research and writing. Numerous other scholars contributed to the volumes and the databases." - Library and Archives Canada
