Craft International was printed quarterly from 1981 through 1988 by the World Crafts Foundation. Craft International, also called CI, had two subheadings, The State of the Book Arts, and The Quarterly Magazine of the Crafts of the Modern World. From the editors: "Book arts, artists' books, livres de luxe, books by artists, livres d'artiste, the crafts of the book-- letterpress, fine printing, Xerox, offset, paper making, bookbinding. Those are some of the words that we encountered as we began putting together this issue. We met many people who knew much about books, how they are made and what they mean. Instead of one coherent definition for "book arts," we were confronted with many from many different artists and craftspeople." About the World Crafts Council: "Founded in 1964, the World Crafts Council (WCC) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization. Its purpose is to strengthen the status of crafts as a vital part of cultural and economic life, to promote fellowship among the craftspersons of the world, to offer them encouragement, help, advice and foster economic development through income generating activities. In short, the WCC's mission seeks to bring crafts and craftspersons into the mainstream of life, connecting with the past through maintaining inherited traditions and looking into the future through the use of modern technology to experiment, innovate and reach out to new markets." -http://www.worldcraftscouncil.org/ CBA Holdings Include: October-November-December 1984 [Two Copies, with featured article by Richard Minsky interviewing Tom Phillips and articles about different book scenes divided geographically into West Coast, New York, Canada, Great Britain, Iceland, and Europe.]
