Description:U & lc. was started in 1974 and continued publishing quarterly issues up until 1999. It was produced by the International Typeface Corporation which was founded by Aaron Burns, Edward Rondthaler, and Herb Lubalin in 1970. U & lc. was printed to showcase ITC typefaces which were also available to purchase the rights to. ITC made typefaces only for filmsetting and computer set types, avoiding the use of metal completely. "Herb Lubalin served as art director for 11 years, until his death in 1981, and worked with a laundry list of talented designers to produce each issue using the new fonts that ITC had to offer. The publication featured often experimental typographic compositions juxtaposed with illustrations, cartoons, imagery and rhetoric talking about the benefits of the new type designs.
