Promotional brochure introducing the Fotosetter (photographic line composing machine) by the Intertype Corporation. Includes discussion of the development process, machine parts and operation, controls, correction and make-up procedure, features and advantages. Also includes a one-page loose linofilm character grid simulation and a fold-out brochure for the Model 17.
"In appearance and operation, the Fotosetter machine is similar to the Intertype line casting machine. It employs the time-proven circulating matrix, assembled and distributed in the usual way. In place of the metal pot, a camera is used. The camera operates on the letter-by-letter principle of photographing each character object individually. This is the principle recognized as the best approach to clear and accurate reproduction of characters. The Fotosetter is one of the few technological innovations which does not require extensive training of a work force. It can be operated by a line casting machine operator with very little additional training. Like a line casting machine, it can be operated by means of mechanical or typewriter keyboards..." - front matter
