Exhibition catalogs, Wood types (Printing)
Catalog for the "Circense" exhibition held by La Casa del Libro. The exhibition took place on November 29, 2001 at San Juan de Puerto Rico, Museo-Biblioteca, La Casa del Libro. The exhibition was held as Part of the public presentation of the wood type collection donated to the Museum by Mr. William E. Pensyl. "A few years ago, La Casa del Libro received the donation of Mr. William Pensyl's American wood type collection. The present exhibition pretends to honour this generous gift. The beautiful letters reminded us of the nineteenth century circus posters and 'most wanted' bills. The circus theme served us to encompass a very brief history of circus-type acts and performing arts. Under the circus theme as well, the exhibition includes works of typographic design from the collection of La Casa del Libro, that are also true acts of balance, or what we have given to call, typographical acrobacies. Among these are also shown, books from the collection, the wood types and Mr. Pensy's printed samples. As part of the exhibition, a set of unbound leaves with poems allusive to the circus, have been printed and designed by Araceli Ortiz-Azancot.
