Catalog for the "Fine Bindings 1500-1700 from Oxford Libraries" exhibition which took place at the Bodleian Library, Oxford.
"This exhibition does not claim to present a history of Western bookbinding between 1500 and 1700 but aims rather at representing the holdings of the Bodleian and the college libraries for this period. Necessarily, this has left certain regrettable gaps, in particular by the absence of notable German and Spanish bindings. These gaps are, however, to some extent offset by the number of French and Italian bindings found, an emphasis which, in its turn, perhaps reflects the interests of the collectors and donors through whom these books came to Oxford.
