Ruben, Robert J., 1933-, Artists' books--Exhibitions, Private libraries--New York (State)--New York--Catalogs
An exhibition catalog from the Grolier Club (March 24-May 28, 2010)
representing a sampling of artists' books from the Robert J. Ruben Collection.
"We have selected the books for this exhibition to provide examples of many of their characteristic forms and media, always with an eye to high quality... Artists' books may be accordian, codex, scroll, box book...They come in every variety of mixed media; they may have
previously known texts, new texts, or no text at all... Creators of artists' books use type, materials, movements, colors, transparencies, contrasts of texture, and more assertive three dimensionality to convey information in the broadest sense. Artists' books do not have embellished texts: taken as a whole, they are the text." [Introduction]
"Set in Trump Mediaeval types, printed in an edition of 1,500 copies on Mohawk paper by Capital Offset, bound by New Hampshire Bindery, designed by Jerry Kelly"--Colophon.
