"In his prints as well as his paintings, collages, and cutouts, Alex Katz has pursued his unique vision, uninfluenced by the frequently changing trends that have occupied the attention of critics of contemporary art. This retrospective of his graphic oeuvre illuminates a steady progression of both technique and sensibility, a continually evolving recognition and mastery of the elements peculiar to the process of transferring an image from matrix to paper. Barry Walker, Associate Curator of Prints and Drawings, has organized a survey of the artist's printed works from the earliest, somewhat tentative images through the masterful portraits of the middle and recent years with which Katz is most strongly identified.
