"Types for New Books was conceived along the model of a weblog, but a printed blog, if that contradiction may be allowed. No longer bound by the economics of offset printing, which makes frequent revision impossible, I can 'post' pages of new typefaces & my commentaries, & print them as required. Not so fast as a blogger might, but fast enough. Perhaps some day these pages will in fact be posted to a blog, as well as appearing bound into booklets. The comments about typefaces in New Types for Books are not exhaustive analyses. They are intended as brief introductions to the qualities that attracted me to these faces and to virtues I have uncovered as I have worked with them. The occasional flaws are mentioned also. Perhaps with time these short takes will become developed into more thorough commentary. For now this is a set of snapshots of one typographer's work and thoughts." -- Taken from the author's introduction
