Description:This work documents an installation focused on the issue of child abuse that was displayed at a Miami hospital. Images of children and news excerpts pertaining to child abuse and medical professionals' personal input are laser printed onto transparencies and vellum, respectively, are housed in folders and bound in a hospital medical chart folder with exposed sewn bindings. "'Hidden Realities: Medical Staff' was created to document a segment of the awarded New Forms Miami Grant 2000, Hidden Realities. The concept was stimulated by the enormous public attention and documentation of child abuse. 'Hidden Realities', consisted of two viewer participation installations. Each installation consists of an audio of a child's cries and twelve transparent photographic images of children floating over documented newspaper excerpts pertaining to child abuse. This book in an outgrowth from the installation that was at the local hospital in Miami. Original photographic images (not of abused children, but images chosen for aesthetic reasons only) laser printed on transparencies, excerpts of articles pertaining to abuse (from The Miami Herald and The New York Times) and medical practitioners personal input laser printed on vellum attached to folders with grommets, bound in a hospital medical folder.
