Buchloh had previously written the essay "Conceptual Art 1962-1969: From the Aesthetics of Administration to the Critique of Institutions," which appeared in October 55 (Winter 1990). Kosuth and Siegelaub's essay is a response to the criticism leveraged by Buchloh against conceptual art. This issue also includes a reply by Buchloh to the Kosuth and Siegelaub reply.
