From the introduction: "Johnston worked with strategies, with artistic procedures, with an awareness of artifice. He says so himself in a few interviews, in paragraphs lost among ramblings, but he says it. Of course, he also worked with the raw material of every outstanding artist: authenticity, something difficult to explain, easy to recognize. What is clear in his words is that the authenticity we recognize in him is mounted on his own production procedures, tied to his fanaticism for the Beatles, for Jack Kirby and for other pop beasts like Marilyn Monroe, Frankenstein or King Kong. All of this is what positioned Daniel Johnston as the king of bedroom pop."
