“On October 15-16, 1985, in the colorful fall setting of the Blue Ridge Mountains, 80 members of the National Network of Grantmakers (NNG) and ten women of color organizers came together in a very specific and unique funder's conference. The conference, ‘Women of Color: Building Bridges Between Resources and Needs,’ was the culmination of discussions that began two years earlier during a workshop on the grassroots organizing of women of color at NNG's annual conference and that continued at a regional gathering in Colorado, in the spring of 1985. It had several aims to introduce funders to examples of the many diverse efforts empowering women of color within their communities; to educate funders on the needs such efforts create; and to expand the base of resources and financial support for these efforts.” -- from the introduction
